New member saying hi...

Hi all, I stumbled onto your site while doing some online research for our new retirement property where we intend to permanently relocate in two years once we get our finances sorted. Firstly, what a great site and resource! I am looking forward to learning from the experiences of others here and sharing our journey. We have purchased an old dairy farm in northern Tasmania and hope to run it as a small venture with cattle, specialty chickens and bees. One of our interests has always been working horses which we have done for the last 30 years on our current property in Victoria. It will be great to finally have the time to scale this activity up along side learning to manage pasture and grow fodder crops. Hubby and I both work full time and are really enjoying contemplating our 'working' retirement on the land.

I think I have become officially jealous. Would love to watch your "retirement" journey. Maybe, one day I can downsize and follow in your footsteps. Cheers Rob.

Hi and Welcome,

I envy you starting out. It is wonderful to be on the land and every day is a day you learn something new. Yes, it's a steep learning curve, but well worth the effort. My family were timber cutters and dairy people who worked in Nth East Tassie for 4 generations before moving to the mainland in 1929. Most of them are still on the land, including me. However, I also write books for CSIRO on goats. So I am busy most of the time, between the writing, the cattle and the goats, but would never move back to the city. Love the clean air, the privacy and even the work.

good luck with your move, I don't think you will regret it. I never have, anyway.

Cheers,

Barb
