Beef cattle snowy mountains

Hi all,

Please excuse my ignorance but I was wondering on the farming of beef in the snowy mountain region:

- do they require bought feed or can they rely on the land?

- is this better breve dine or fattening country?

- what is the rainfall like and is it reliable?

100 questions I know but thanks in advance ;)

What type of pumps?

We have recently bought 15 hectares on Queensland's Darling Downs that has around 100 olive trees established and we want to run a few cattle on the block as well.

The block has two bores with no pumps attached so we are trying to decide what will work best.  We won't be living on the block so reliability is really important.

There seem to be endless options from the classic windmill to solar powered submersible pumps and many options in between.  The water level on the deepest bore is at approximately 60 metres and the shallower one about 40 metres.

Off grid Hybrid solar wind systems for farms

I started a year back researching the viability of off grid out of town, it appears if by importation and installation its done DIY it may be perfectly viable and cheaper than the grid for farms or simply large blocks outside town.

Wonder if you can give me any constructive feedback here about it. It is a bit long and chewy but i would say economically worth it.

Investing in Cattle

Hi All,

I have been asked to invest in some Blonde Charolais cattle where I buy a certain amount and they are looked adfter on property by  a stud owner.

He does everything on farm and I pay costs per head per year and get a return every year from the sal of the bulls at 2 yrs old. Each year our stud

grows with the birth of new calves, just wondering if anyone has heard of or done something like this as it seems a great idea to be part of the cattle stud

business without having to own a property, any help would be greatly appreciated

Regards

Dorper Sheep

Hi All,

My partner and I are looking at a 10arce, 2 dam, property with good soil we feel in western Victoria and would love to talk to any one about Dorper Sheep and their experiences with this breed. In particular, how many sheep would be suitable for this size property, start up cost, ongoing cost in rearing this breed? Also if after the fleece is dropped, can it be used for spinning like a normal sheeps fleece and what is the staple like?Any other information that would be usefully to us.Regards Dawn

Agistment

For the past 12 months we have rented out our farm house and left the 140 acres vacant, but now however we will be relocating to the farm house at Christmas and we are looking to agist some of our acres, given we will be there to keep an eye on things and also to help raise funds for our own stock.  What is the current agistment rate for cattle and horses in the Tamworth area?

Beef cattle farm

Hey all, we were wondering if anyone with beef cattle in nsw would be happy for us to pop in for a day one weekend? We are currently studying a beef cattle course and there are some parts that we would love to see first hand and of course have a chat ;)

Let us know if anyone wouldn't mind too much?

cheers

Flood gate replacement

Hi fellow members, during this wet spell my floodgate has been damaged . it is a chicken wire type mesh suspended from wires with a base of star pickets attached. I've seen corrurgated iron swing types and was thinking of trying that out, any body got any hints?
