How much water do you use and need???

Hi Guys,
 
Been quite busy with some other projects, but curious to know if/what/how much additional water (over the top of say catchment on your house roofs etc.) you would like to capture in the event of a rain event. I.e, if the forecast is showing a high chance of rain in your area, would it be of any value to you to have a system, that was mobile that you could essentially drop anywhere on your property with the ability to capture up to 800,000 litres (0.8 ml). If yes, what would it be worth to you?

Hi Andrew,

You can never have too much water on a farm, a system that was mobile would definately be of interest. This sounds like it would also have an application on 1-2 acre residential blocks.

  • Can you provide a bit more background, are you developing this product?
  • How do you plan to catch the run off or would you have to pump it from a dam?
  • If it is located on a farm how do you exclude livestock and birdlife to ensure it is not damaged?

Hi Charlie, Thanks for the feedback. Yes I've been working on something for a few years now which will be relatively quick to transport i.e if you want to relocate it on your property you can do so, and set up is relatively quick and easy, so you could essentially have it in the shed, and when you think there could be rain you go out and set it up where you'd like the water contained. Capacity would range from 10,000 right through to 800,000 litres depending on the needs and then dependant upon the rainfall. In terms of how safe/secure it is from livestock and birds etc, it's planned to be robust enough to last in a pretty hostile environment. I guess part of my question then is would that be valuable to farmers (of varying scales of course as you point out even small hobby farms may use it), and at what cost???

Hi Andrew,

I'm trying to think how it would have an application on livestock farmers?? Most paddocks either have a dam or tank and trough system. It might have an application where a paddock had no water source, but where it could be captured and stored during a large rainfall event and stored for future use.

Maybe it would have a better application for farmers who irrigate horticulture or vegetable crops. These farmers would be more likley to pay a higher price as they are dealing with a higher value crop.
