First Introduction

Hi All,

My Name is Ahmed; I am new migarant to Australia and I live in Sydney. I wa thinking of having a Farm as an investment and I have many queries such as:

   - What is the minimum area to be bought as a good investment start?

   - I am thinking to hire a full time Farm Manager. Is it effective?

   - How to get consultation services prior buying the Farm?

Thank and best regards to all.

Hi Ahmed,

Welcome to the forum, nice to have part of the small farming community and to hear of your dreams of owning a small farm.

Regarding the sized area you require will really depend on your budget and experience. Personally I would start small, gain some skills and experience prior to expanding.

You would need to have a farming busiess of substanial  scale to justify a full time farm manager. The person would need to be experienced, trust worthy and able to work unsupervised.

Farmstyle offers a range of small farming consulting including a pre-purchase inspection package. It is very important to have an experienced consultant inspect any farm prior to purchae to ensure you do not make costly mistakes. Typical topics covered during the pre-purchase inspection include:

  • Water resources
  • Legal requirements
  • Land capability
  • Fencing & likely costs
  • Declared weeds
  • Soil management
  • Stocking rates
  • Pasture quality and grazing management
  • Native vegetation
  • Machinery & farm infrastructure requirements
If you have any furtehr questions please PM me at info@farmstyle.com.au

Charlie

Dear Charlie/Fourm,

Thank you for your reply, and I have one question I would appreciate if you or any of the forum members answers me.

I am looking for a farm but I don't know where to start, I am looking around Oberon, Portland, Goulburn and Hunter.

My objective to be as near as I could to Sydney, Farm with reasonable price, and to be able to run. But I am not familiar with rainfall amount and soil condition....etc.

Please advise of an area so I can focus my farm hunting process.

Regards,

Hi Ahmed,

Thanks for the reply. Most of the areas that you are looking at would be suitable for a small farm and enable you to travel back and forth from Sydney. Generally the closer you are to Sydney and the higher the rainfall the more expensive the land will be. The other area that may be worth some reasearch is the Southern Highlands, this has good rainfall and is within a few hours drive of Sydney.

Regards,

Charlie
