Howdy All

We thought we would join up and see what this is all about. We use the term 'Farming' very loosely as we do not really farm on our six acres. Half of it is rainforest and permanent creek. We have a 130 year old Colonial house and try to do the sustainability thing as mush as possible. We have a huge vegie garden which continues to expand. As you can tell it really is a hobby/lifestyle farm 100% subsidised from off farm income. We would like to use one acre or so for some form of income but have not come up with a product that is viable for such a small area. Not one that you don't go to jail for anyway :)

Your farm sounds wonderful! Do you live 'on-farm' or is it a weekend retreat? I also have a small farm and would like to generate some income from it.  I have a large organic herb garden and am looking into supplying local restaurants. Maybe that would work for you to?

Hi Elf,

Our house is on our six acres ten kilometres from the centre of Maryborough Qld. Yes we are 'Fringe Dwellers'. A nice easy commute every day for both of us.

We have thought of herbs as  it is one of my strong interests. One thing that grows well here is garlic. I plant around 100 each year and feed our friends and family plus assist others to get a crop started for their own home. Everyone I have given bulbs too has had good success as well.

Herbs/garlic and lettuce is what I have thought about for the local restaurants. Our lettuce and tomatoes are out of this world in taste so that is  a good start.
