Pasture for pregnant & lactating goats

Sorry all, I must not have posted my initial question properly, leaving the post blank. I will try again!Smile

If Currey is not interested in the answer to his pasture question I certainly am as I have the same query.

My property is at Braidwood NSW, the southern tablelands, on a ridge so not great land.

Hobby farm insurance

Hi

I wonder if anyone can advise me what insurance I would need for my property. I have 10 acres in the Adelaide Hills with circa 200 olive trees grown for oil. At the moment we are running this as a hobby farm ourselves (although we just used a pruning service) with no employees. There is some equipment, tractor, electric harvesters and a trailer. There is also a dam on the property and the entire property fenced.

We live on the property and of course our house and contents are currently insured - through AAMI.

What is the best pasture for goats/alpacas

We have a large paddock that is shared by goats/alpacas.....it has recently been covered in moss with very little feed available ....we are planning to till the paddock and lime it...and we were wondering what we should seed it with? What would be our best seed mix to use when replanting for goats/alpacas?

Pasture improvement

Hope some one can give me some advice. My wife & I have just purchased 7.5 acres in Millthorpe NSW. Its my chance to get away from the rat race ( Sydney ) and start to plant out the property for future established trees & possibly put in some vines while everyone else in Australia seems to be ripping them out. Eventually we will build & have this as our Rural getaway. We love the region & its surroundings.

Bore water and salinity

We have just purchased our dream property. The water is supplied by a dam and a bore, which has a windmill. The property has previously run cattle, but I have plans of establishing a mixed fruit orchard, a large vegetable garden and a few grape vines. I've been told that the bore water is quite saline, and I've come across something in my research called a magnetic water conditioner (water magnets) which claim to alleviate or minimise this problem so that it is suitable for domestic and irrigation purposes. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of this product? Are they expensive?

Introducing boer billy goats into a feral herd

Hi, I was planning to introduce a number of boer goat billy's into a feral herd. Do I need to remove the feral billies completely prior to this? How do the boer goat billies compete for mating as against the feral billies?

Cheers,

Tony
