Agistment

Hi everyone, I'm a new member of FarmStyle and our family have newly purchased a 12 acres near Balhannah in the Adelaide Hills. We are looking to find some local people who are interested in having their livestock on our land (several months ago this land was used for horse agistment). I'd be grateful for any guidance or advice as to how we can connect with people who might be interested. Thanks so much for any input! Marie.

Hi Marieoc,

Welcome to the hobby farm forum and thanks for the question.

I would firstly ask your neighbours and see if they know of anyone or more importantly can recommend someone who is going to run any livestock well and look after your farm.

With any agistment you should have a formal written agreement in place which outlines details such as stocking rates, notice period and repairs and maintenance to fencing and water.

We also have an active small farm Facebook discussion group which you might like to join, agistment is a common discussion topic. This can be found at the link below

Regards,
Charlie

Thanks a lot, Charlie. That's very helpful information. Do you know if there example agreements freely available or otherwise where the best place to look would be? I'll check out the Facebook page too.
